Australia-wide · National chain · 75 stores

Stores in QLD, VIC, NSW, WA, SA, ACT, TAS · Founded 2007

99 Bikes is Australia's largest independent bicycle retailer. Founded in 2007 by Matt Turner in Milton, Brisbane — reputedly because his first shop fit only 99 bikes — the chain now operates more than 75 stores across every mainland state plus the ACT and Tasmania, with additional presence in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. 99 Bikes is the retail arm of Brisbane-based Pedal Group, a certified B-Corp that also owns wholesale distributor Advance Traders (Merida, Cube, Pedal, Silverback). Pedal Group was originally a joint venture with Flight Centre; the Turner family has recently moved to take full control. E-bikes are explicitly the chain's biggest growth category — CEO Andrew Garnsworthy has pointed to electric as the category reshaping the business, and the chain runs two annual national expos (the Electric Mountain Bike Expo and the Electric Commuter E-Bikes & E-Scooters Expo) to give customers free test rides on location. In April 2026, the manager of the South Melbourne store told the *Sydney Morning Herald* that e-bike sales had roughly quadrupled as petrol crossed $2.50 a litre — reflecting the broader surge the chain is seeing nationally.
